Because we deliver front-line services for thousands of households across West Yorkshire, we see and understand the impact that healthy homes have on people’s lives.
Whether it’s providing advice around damp and mould, training our colleagues to deal with trauma, or making daily lives easier through home adaptations, we know that our support services can make a real difference.
Healthy Homes is a project launched by WDH in partnership with the West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board to provide financial support and practical guidance to young families impacted by damp, mould and condensation. It aims to prevent breathing and respiratory issues, especially in children, by targeting young families across the Wakefield district.
The project supports families with financial difficulties to ensure they can afford to keep their homes healthy and warm, especially during the winter months.
Delivered by WDH’s Cash Wise team, Healthy Homes also highlights how households can quickly report and receive support with any damp, mould and condensation issues.
Separately, funding support from the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership has led to over 300 colleagues from across the West Yorkshire Housing Partnership being trained in trauma informed practice to increases awareness of how trauma can negatively impact individuals and communities.
We recognise that people who experience traumatic experiences, such as abuse, violence, neglect, poverty and discrimination, are more likely to be affected later in life.
Having colleagues who are trained in and able to apply this approach means we’re able to deliver sensitive services that people trust and want to use.
