Everyone deserves a decent, warm and affordable home – and meeting the housing needs of West Yorkshire doesn’t have to be an impossible challenge.

Housing associations have a key role to play in solving in the housing crisis and we’re playing our part through our priority to build the affordable homes that people desperately need.

One community which is seeing the benefits of this is Rastrick where Yorkshire Housing is building 267 homes as part of its Cromwell Gardens scheme. This development represents a £40 million pound investment into the area and includes affordable rent, shared ownership, rent-to-buy and market sale properties.

The homes are a mix of 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes, with 41 homes included in the recently completed first phase and 127 homes in the second phase which is well underway. The third and final phase will be made up of 99 homes.

The site is due for completion in winter 2026 and our partners at Calderdale Council recently visited to see how work is progressing.

“The completion of this first phase development in Rastrick is a great example of partnership working to deliver much-needed new affordable homes, which are energy-efficient and cheaper to run. The development will bring more choice for local families and support council priorities for thriving towns and places, reduced inequalities and climate action.”

Cllr Scott Patient, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Housing at the Calderdale Council

“We’ve been thrilled to showcase the great progress made so far and we look forward to seeing the rest of the scheme take shape. Rastrick is a thriving area in need of more affordable housing and this development will address this shortfall, whilst also providing opportunities for people to move into high-quality energy efficient homes.”

Shared development pipeline

We’ve established a shared development pipeline which gathers data from across our partnership members to highlight how we’ll deliver quality homes over the coming years.

The pipeline is coordinated by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and is updated every six months to help our members and partners understand the progress we’re making in our priority to build affordable homes.
