Building more affordable homes is key to both ending the housing crisis and boosting economic growth in West Yorkshire and across the country.
This comes at a time when around 90,000 households in our region remain in urgent need of housing.
We’re pleased to see the £500 million in new funding for the Affordable Homes Programme in today’s Budget. It’s also welcome news that Right to Buy discounts are being reduced so that thousands more social homes remain in the sector for future generations.
But to achieve the affordable homes needed across West Yorkshire, we need a new long-term strategy and delivery programme with a significant increase in guaranteed funding for social housing over the next decade.
