There are strong links between health, housing and homelessness. And this is an area where our collaboration is bringing great benefits to improve outcomes for those who need extra support.

As housing providers, we’re far more than just landlords.

We work with local authorities to reduce and prevent homelessness and improve mental and physical health outcomes for our customers. We also work together to reduce health inequalities, support independent living for older people, and provide safety and security for those who need it most. That’s because the challenges of an ageing population and increasing homelessness make the need for action more pronounced than ever.

And as a healthy population is also a more productive and prosperous one, the benefits are not just for people and communities, but also for the local economy.

Our support

We’re taking active steps to prevent people from becoming homeless by providing tenancy support and working closely with our local authority partners to rehouse people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

During 2022/23 we helped rehouse over 11,100 households when tackling cases of homelessness. This is just a small snapshot of our impact.

Our other services that support residents in West Yorkshire include:

  • Safeguarding support and domestic abuse services
  • Tenancy sustainability and homelessness services – including specialist accommodation
  • Wellbeing caseworkers, support for older people, telecare and mental health navigators
  • Specialist housing, housing adaptations and supporting people to live independently through initiatives such as our support for West Yorkshire’s Dementia Ready Housing Taskforce
  • Hardship funds, foodbank funds, fuel vouchers and welfare benefits support
  • Social investment and community grants
  • Handyperson services and furniture support
  • Energy and financial advice, including signposting and links to credit unions
